  • Excellent Job
Aboutsix months ago Michael responded quickly to my distress call and got my boiler going again. British gas had said the boiler was unrepairable and a new boiler was needed. A week later a new problem arose and was once again fixed by Michael. Finally in the recent cold snap the boiler broke down again and at this point I decided on a new boiler. Michael and his team installed the new Vaillant boiler in a day and even set the timer so I entered a warm home on my return. I should also mention how neat and tidy he is and the team even wore plastic slippers when working in the house.

  • Unreliable - did not turn up to do the work
I prefer to use small, local businesses but this time it was a big mistake. Michael diagnosed the cause of my leaking bath, and sent me a quote for the work. I agreed the quote, and we arranged a date for the work to be done. He failed to turn up. I repeatedly called his mobile (switched off) and office (answering machine) all day. No one has ever contacted me since.

  • 1 Big Leak, 1 Neurotic, Stressed Female & 2 Very Understanding Plumbers!!!
"You're bloody late, 4 hours late" I screamed at the two startled men on my doorstep and without waiting for a reply marched them to the cause of my distress, namely, a fallen ceiling and water dripping into overflowing buckets and onto my 3 week old carpet. Still fuming, I then left them to get on with it and went to collect my child. I returned a little over an hour later to find..... The leaking pipe had been photographed and repaired. The bulging ceiling had been made safe with the sagging parts of the ceiling having been trimmed back. The partially fallen ceiling had been removed from my carpet and placed into rubbish bags and they were using a machine to suck the water from the carpet. They had also photographed the damage so I had a record for the insurance company. I telephoned my husband to say the plumbers had finally showed up and everything was going well, no doubt due to my having screamed blue murder at them for a minute or two upon their late arrival. "Oh"" was his reply, "I think you owe them an apology, I called out another firm, as the first one called to say they couldn't make it" "Arrrrhhhhhh!!!" I made them some tea and biscuits and asked why they hadn't said anything when I was screaming at them "Couldn't get a word in edgeways, so thought it best to get on with the job before the rolling pin came out' was Michael's reply! It transpired my husband had rang Fox & Co after being let down by the first company. Upon ringing the company, the lady at the other end was very helpful and promised a quick response. They were as good as their word and arrived about 30 minutes later.. I can categorically say that I was very happy with the service, understanding and speedy response displayed and would recommend Fox Plumbing & Heating to anyone looking for professionalism and good service.

  • APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE
Fox and Co were booked to come and service our boiler at 9am yesterday morning. I duly took the morning off work to meet their engineer. When they hadn't arrived by 10am I called to chase and was told the engineer was delayed and would be with me shortly, but no specific time could be given. At 11am I called and chased again, and was told that the engineer who was meant to do the job was in fact delayed/stuck on another job and that someone else would be with me by 11.30am. By 12.30am no one had arrived and so I called again to be told that some one would find out the reason for the delay and call me back. Someone called back at 12.40 to say that they were on their way but were stuck in traffic and could be some time. As I had already taken the morning off work, I then had to cancel the appointment in order to get to work on time. I asked to speak to someone in charge at Fox and co and for an explanation for the poor service. No one has called us back a full day later. While I understand engineers may get stuck at a previous job, or stuck in traffic, I find it completely unacceptable that Fox and Co a) did not phone ahead and warn us of the delay (at no point did any one call me unprompted to explain the delay) and b) did not offer any alternative explanation, arrangement, or at the very least apology for such delays, given the appointment was booked several days in advance. These are the last people I would call for a standard boiler service, let alone a plumbing emergency! I am thoroughly unimpressed.

Michael De Havilland of Fox & Co Plumbing & Heating replies:

FFox & Co do not make precise time appointments for the most obvious of reasons. We provide a two hour time window, which in this case was between 9.30am - 11.30am. The gentleman called the office shortly after 10.00 and was informed the attending engineer was still on a job (attending a gas leak) and would be there once the job was completed. The gentleman called again just before 11.00 and was again informed the attending engineer was still on the gas leak job. (Engineers are not allowed to leave a gas related job in an unsafe condition and a gas leak is deemed by Corgi to be such a condition). The attending engineer called the office and informed them he was unable to estimate how much longer was needed to complete the job. A call from the office was then put through to another engineer, namely myself, to attend to the gentleman's boiler service. I called around 11.20am and stated I would be with him as quickly as I could travel from Fulham to Holloway, N19, a distance of some 9 miles and according to the Sat NAV, a journey time of around 45 minutes. Needless to say, there was traffic and the journey didn't progress smoothly and a text message was sent around 12.00, followed by a call. Shortly after speaking with the gentleman he called the office and cancelled the job. In the review the gentleman states that nobody called him to offer an explanation which I entirely refute.. I called him and spoke with him and stated that after speaking with the initial attending engineer I would again be in touch. Shortly after my call I became aware of the negative feedback and needless to say was somewhat put out that less than 24 hours had elapsed prior to the gentleman posting his review, which allowed precious little time for me to respond. I should point out that January is one of the busiest periods for any heating firm and occasionally jobs have to be delayed through no fault of ours. Whilst I understand the gentleman was somewhat put out to be kept waiting, the job was after all a yearly boiler service and at the point of cancellation by the gentleman we were a little over 1 hour outside our window. Most of our clients are understanding and if a problem occurs they simply rebook another appointment Fox & Co are available 7 days a week, so there really is no reason for a person to take time off from work for something as mundane as a boiler service. Were the boiler broken then it would be understandable to want the repair to be carried a.s.a.p, but in this case the boiler was fine.
  • Very good job!
Michael, the owner, answered my distress call promptly on a Sunday morning (even though I was not an existing customer), after over two weeks of major heating/hot water problems NOT being fixed by the company that had installed original system. After his diagnosis, I decided I wanted to change systems, get rid of the storage tanks install a new combi boiler. I would stress that he willingly offered to repair the old system and in no way forced the more expensive option on me - it was me that had lost faith in the open vent system I had, and me that pressed for a new boiler. Miraculously, due to a cancellation, they were able to do this job within 48 hours, on 23rd December, thus ensuring that I would be warm and clean for Christmas, something I had given up hope on. Michael arrived on time with two colleagues and they worked fantastically hard all day and into the evening to get the job done within a day. I was particularly impressed with Jed, the gas fitter, who seemed to me to be exceptionally professional, diligent and knowledgeable. I would certainly use this company again and recommend them to others.

  • Called Fox & Co out on a Sunday to repair my broken saniflow which had ceased working, causing a backlog of smelly water and other things to back up into my bath, basin and loo. Had to postpone appointment at last moment due to a crisis at work, by the time I had contacted Michael he had already arrived at my house. Surprise, surprise, no anger or nasty comments, even offered to return later that day! Arranged for him to call me if he could make it the next day as he was very busy. He did call and came over and used a machine to suck all the foul smelling water and other things from the loo, basin and bath and then inspected the saniflow. Unfortunately it was beyond repair and a new one was required. He will be returning tomorrow to fit a new one. Before leaving he sanitized the loo, basin and bath, sprayed the area with a room freshener. I was extremely pleased with his work, behaviour and professional approach. I really would recommend Michael to one and all.

  • Very please with Michael and his helper. We called him out because we were without heating and hot water and had a dripping boiler. Michael quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts. Unfortunately the backup heater wasn't working but Michael returned the next day, a Saturday, to fit a new heater and ensure we had hot water. The boiler was fixed a couple of days later and is working as we would expect. We found Michael to be professional, charming, thoughtful (took his shoes off when going upstairs) and very child safety aware, we would fully recommend him.

  • Michael and his team were employed to fit a new combi boiler and remove all the old elements of the water tank and old sytle boiler. They completed the work on time and left the place spotless (even washing up!). They continue to come back to fix little bits that need finishing. My only issue would be getting hold of Michael by phone or getting a response from the email. This can be frustrating at times, I am currently waiting on a quote for a bathroom refit but if I wait any longer I may look elsewhere. Overall they are a professional outfit, good rates and trustworthy but be patient if you require quotes or contact back swiftly.

Michael De Havilland of Fox & Co Plumbing & Heating replies:

Apologies, but when working I can't always pick up the phone. I receive a large number of calls each day and try my best to answer. Callers can always call Carmen in the office, who usually picks up within seconds, unless engaged on another call. My telephone statistics show my daily calls average out at 63 per day with only 8 missed calls which isn't too bad! See my blog for more about this thread.

The damage was contained, the mess, which had spread to my neighbour's below was also cleared up and a new boiler was installed the next day. One further point should be mentioned, they were the tidiest and cleanest workers ever to enter our flat and left it tidier than they found it, very, very, impressed with their professionalism and thoughtfulness.
