One of the more specialist jobs our Silver Saints handymen undertake is the Saniflo repairs.
If you don't know, a Saniflo is a machine that both macerates and pumps waste and waste water from toilets and bathroom appliances. Saniflo units have made it possible to have toilets, showers and basins in basements and loft conversions without any major reworking of plumbing and sewer designs.
Although they are very effective and well designed machines, macerators due have their limitations. Mainly, they can not cope with anything fiberous or stringy been flushed down the loo. To combat this weakness, Saniflo supply a big red sticker with their units to be stuck on the toilet cistern to alert any person using the toilet that they should not flush anything other than toilet paper down the loo.
Unfortunately many people choose to ignore or forget this golden rule and as a consiquince end up jamming the saniflo or at very least causing the macerator unit to vibrate and make a load noise every time it fires into action.
In the past few months we have assisted in freeing up jammed saniflo units for our customers. The most common object removed are wetwipes or facial wipes but we have also removed condoms, tampons, carpet threads, flush handles, a sock and a coffee mug handle from the blades of various saniflos.
