  • David Howe Sash Windows, not recommended.
We were looking for replacement sash windows and came across David Howe Windows through a circular. We got a quotation and before we placed an order we saw a job that had been completed which looked fine. We told David Howe that we have, in the past, had bad experiences with replacement window installations and he assured us that we would get a first class installation, carried out by his own craftsmen. With those assurances, we went ahead with him. We were given a start date and two working days prior to that date we were told it had been put back a week. My wife spoke with David Howe and when she complained that he had not given us much notice he upset her with his brusque attitude. This was not a good start and had we not paid a substantial deposit, we would have cancelled the work there and then. During the course of the work they fitted a casement window the wrong way round and it had to be re-made and I had course to complain about poor plastering, cheap brassware that was fitted poorly and the wrong type of paint (they specified Dulux Weathershield and it was not). Worst of all, there were scratches on the glass of two out of five windows. Supervision was almost non-existant. When the sratches were pointed out, they were going to replace the windows, but after a discussion between David Howe and his men they decided that they had lost confidence in us as customers and might never please us. They wanted to walk away fom the job offering a cash discount as compensation for the defects. This was completely at odds with David Howe's statement that they would not walk away from a job until the customer is completely satisfied. Initially, we refused their offer, but as they had already taken seven days to carry out the work that was to have taken three, we accepted their offer. We got new windows, but we are not satisfied customers. What should have been a pleasurable experience was far from it and not one that we would wish to repeat. We would not recommend this company.
