LABC - Local Authority Building Control
A Competent Person is a business that has been adjudged to be sufficiently competent to self-certify that its work complies with Part P of the Building Regulations of England and Wales. A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The LABC (Local Authority Building Control) has been developed by a collaboration of all of the approved scheme providers to provide the consumer with the ability to search for a Competent Person registered with one of the schemes. While compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations is compulsory, registration with a Competent Person Scheme is not. Businesses carrying out work covered by the Building Regulations are encouraged to join one of the government's approved schemes. Alternatively, they may choose to continue to use a building control body. Currently this site is dedicated to Part P of the Building Regulations, which is related to electrical safety in the home. It is intended that members of other Competent Person schemes will be included on this site at some time in the future.
LaddersFree - The National Register of Ladders Free Window Cleaners
The LaddersFree register provides customers with the contact details and company profile of independent window cleaning companies that carry out window cleaning using water fed poles. Recent changes to work at height legislation and in particular The Work at Height Directive 2005 means that building owners and those that contract others to provide window cleaning services must ensure that both; appropriate work equipment is selected and used and those that work at height are competent. As a result LaddersFree have recently launched a 'certificate of registration'(one certificate providing all the customary information) where it is now a compulsory requirement for members wanting to join the National Register to meet certain criteria for window cleaning services using water fed poles. As well as providing LaddersFree copies of Public Liability/Employers Liability Cover and information on internal health and safety procedures all members must also provide two commercial referees and complete our competency report.
